I was there 2
Great show. First and only time I saw the dead. was very young too young for a drivers license. Had cotton mouth so bad and I saw this huge group people dressed in tie dye passing around jugs of kool-aid, made my way down there and finally got a couple big drinks. Tall guy said kid your life will never be the same. He was right. Drinking kool-aid with the dead heads will do that for ya. Loved it. is there a way to get this transferred onto my computer or a stick? Thanks

I remember the double rainbow
I was one of the hippies down front at this show. They played the damn sun back into the sky! That was the day I realized what magic is. Absolutely unforgettable! And it was in my HOME!

Disc 1 & 2 are pretty much listenable, but don't leave w/o disc 3. One of the very best Other Ones of this early '73 period!

Best Dead Show I Attended
I saw the Dead many times from the East Coast to the Midwest and this Des Moines Fairground show was the best. I remember driving to DM with my GF and a couple friends in my 64 Biscayne, not knowing if the car would made it. In the middle of the first set we push and snake our way to the front rows and the energy there was most intense and unbelievable in a good way. The music was flowing from the inside and all around us. I remember one erratic acting guy ran up onto the stage and the Dead played the Marching Beats and he acted accordingly. And the rainbow appeared from nowhere at the conclusion of Here Comes Sunshine. At the end of the concert, my friend Joe and I looked at each other with our mouths wide open and both said WOW. Sweet memory and super show. Thanks GD for the great show and the upload.

The GRATEFUL DEAD "Live In Concert" May 13, 1973, at the Des Moines State Fairgrounds, Des Moines, Iowa, United States of America
"Classic" 1973 Sound/Performance & Arrangements
The audio has issues, but the performanc is superb. Garcia seems to be up in the mix...and most of you don't mind that do you?
A nice show from 1973 to add to your collection. If only the audio was perect...
This is one of them 73' shows with the big long jam in "Playin' In the Band"...remember? This one's almost half an hour long...get ready for the "70's".
You can't imagine the 70's, only remember it. I wish I was at this show. I wish Dick and his Pick or the GRATEFUL DEAD would release this show with pristine sound and video...I can dream can't I?
I recommend using your EQ during playback of most of the shows on the IA, this one included.
Windows Media Player has a 10 band EQ and SRS WOW effects that enhance the sound.
Here's one way to download this show:
The IA recommends users of Windows XP view this web-page with RealPlayer. RealPlayer is a free media player you can download at www.realplayer.com.
For easy streaming or downloading you should use RealPlayer.
Using RealPlayer to view this webpage, click the VBR M3U link to open the songs in the Playlist. Favorite Dead Show Ever!
I too was at this Sunday outdoor event on Mother's Day I believe. 2 friends and I hitchhiked all the way from WIU also slept overnite at fairgrounds. I saw them at least 6 times in the 70's and this was the BEST they ever played, period. I remember the rain, then came the sunshine back as they played "here comes sunshine" and the double rainbow. Played ALL afternoon for hours, what a magical performance I will never forget. Thanks for the memory! Forget about the sound quality- this just captures the spirit of the time.

Out of order
According to dead.net, "Casey Jones" was the encore, but here it's put in at the beginning of the second set.
Should be put back in order, but the band was in fine form this day!

This is really nice
The Other One is more of a Dark One or an Other Star ... ...... you know, there are a LOT of gems from February through June of 1973. I thought I'd heard them all but this is a welcome addition to the collection. The mix is a tad Jerry-centric (really need to hear more of Billy here) and for sure the sound quality could be higher.
For me, all this leads up to 6/22/73 at the PNE Coliseum. The Other One -> Eyes makes all the right moves ...

Recording quality aside, let me reminisce. I was at this show. We camped in the fairground and partied most of the night. (Ahh the advantages of youth!) Anyway, this was the 4th time I had seen the Dead - and even the previous great shows (Chicago Ampitheater and Champaign [2&3]) did not prepare me for this 3 set extravaganza, which included a short rain and great rainbow. I asked a guy from my home town who I ran into "Are you having a good time?" He just gestured to the sky, to the crowd, and then to the Dead and looked at me with a grin. 'Nuff said.
Thanks for getting this up.

Great show, average quality
OK, it's not the greatest quality but if you get the He's Gone thru Sugar Mag segment, you won't be disapointed. The Other1 is especially interesting in that it spans 20 minutes of SERIOUS SPACE! After some noodling by Jerry, it appears the band has left this planet only to return and rip up an incredible Eyes. Sunshine and Playin' are also worthy of note but at least get the meat of this show

good show mediocre sound
IMO this is much more listenable than the other source...there may be more hiss here, but the other sounds noise reduced...this is a fuller sound despite the hiss

fairly good show
however, get the other source. this is a bit "louder", but is also quite a bit "hissier"
